Description
Bharathanatyam is the oldest Indian classical dance style and hails from Tamil Nadu. It features stylized movement, rhythmic footwork, and is highly expressive both in facial and body movement. Bharathanatyam classes will also focus specifically on learning dance theory, including "adavus" (foot and hand movement combinations) and "sollukattu" (spoken rhythms), and on learning choreography.
Level 2 students will focus on learning more advanced adavu (basic steps), Samyuta Hasta (double-handed gestures), Alarippu, and Pushpanjali.
Notes:
Appropriate attire is leggings, a t-shirt or comfortable kameez, and bare feet.
Students are expected to practice 10-15 minutes daily to keep up with the progress of the class.
If you are new to Indian dance, prior participation in our Classical Blend Performance Intensives and/or Drop In Classes is helpful.
Class fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
