Description
Kathak is a North Indian classical dance style that originated among nomadic storytellers and became codified in the Indian royal courts. The style features flowing hand movements, complicated footwork patterns, and spins. Teachers will focus on teaching students more complex footwork, arm movement, and rhythmic patterns. Students will also focus on story-telling, expression, graceful movement, and stage presence.
Ajna teaches in the style of the Lucknow Gharana. This class is perfect for those children who have taken Kathak with Ajna Dance before. Prior experience in our Kathak – Level 2 class is required. Discretion as to whether the student is ready for Level 3 is up to the teacher. Please speak to the teacher before registering your child for this class.
Notes:
Required attire is a t-shirt and leggings and bare feet. Please DO NOT have your child wear dresses or distracting accessories to class.
Students are expected to practice 15-20 minutes daily with occasional supervision.
Students are expected to participate at their fullest potential, follow directions and be considerate and respectful of other students and instructor. Students who continue to be disruptive or disrespect the policies will be un-enrolled from the class. There is no eating or chewing gum during class.
Fees are non-refundable and non-transferable.
Attendance is important to continue the moment of the child's progress. The curriculum is designed so that students are building on their skills each week. Children that come in late miss the basic warm ups that will help them with the remainder of the class. Please notify us if your child will be absent. Regular attendance is important for students and is respectful to their classmates with whom they are working with as a group.
Students will perform their work at a recital at an end-of-term recital. Further details on the recital will be shared closer to the recital date.
