“O what learning is!” - Romeo & Juliet
Our in-person camp takes place in downtown Santa Cruz (mostly outdoors). Students spend a week mounting a production of a Shakespeare play, abridged for length (around 35-45 minutes). Every student is cast and the final day culminates in a free performance for friends and family. Not familiar with Shakespeare? Not to worry! Students of all experience levels are welcome.
Participants spend the morning playing and creating in a wide variety of theater disciplines, taught by working theater professionals. They then spend their afternoons in rehearsals, cultivating, crafting, and putting their newly-acquired skills to the test in a fully-staged Shakespeare performance. The experience culminates in a free Shakespeare performance for family and friends at the end of the program.
We strongly encourage parents to drop their children off, but if your child needs you to stay a little, especially on the first day, then you are more than welcome to sit in. Please bring water and snacks, as well as a lunch (if you are do the extended camp) for your performers. They will need the nourishment for their imaginations, active voices and bodies. We will take a morning and afternoon break, as well as a longer lunch break - so they will have time to refuel and hydrate.
