Beauty is in the eye of the ogre in Shrek The Musical JR., based on the Oscar-winning DreamWorks Animation film and fantastic Broadway musical. It's a "big bright beautiful world" as everyone's favorite ogre, Shrek, leads a cast of fairytale misfits on an adventure to rescue a princess and find true acceptance. Part romance and part twisted fairy tale, Shrek JR. is an irreverently fun show with a powerful message for the whole family.
Once upon a time, in a far away swamp, there lived an ogre named Shrek. One day, Shrek finds his swamp invaded by banished fairytale misfits who have been cast off by Lord Farquaad, a tiny terror with big ambitions. When Shrek sets off with a wisecracking donkey to confront Farquaad, he's handed a task — if he rescues feisty princess Fiona, his swamp will be righted. Shrek tries to win Fiona’s love and vanquish Lord Farquaad, but a fairytale wouldn't be complete without a few twists and turns along the way.
With abundant opportunities for imaginative sets and costumes, and a host of over-the-top roles for an expandable cast, there's a part for everyone in this dazzling adventure story.
We strongly encourage parents to drop their children off, but if your child needs you to stay a little, especially on the first day, then you are more than welcome to sit in. Please bring water and snacks, as well as a lunch (if you are do the extended camp) for your performers. They will need the nourishment for their imaginations, active voices and bodies. We will take a morning and afternoon break, as well as a longer lunch break - so they will have time to refuel and hydrate.
We need your help! This is a very rewarding part of the summer production experience - there are many roles the fit everyone's schedule and there's something for everyone..!
To make all of this magic come together, we do request that each family contribute approx. 15 hours of volunteer time (plus additional 5 hours per additional child in same production). These hours go swiftly and really provide an opportunity to connect with our other families and to build community whilst supporting the greater process and your child(ren) as well as all those in the production.
Learning lines, practicing dances and songs ready for the final performances.
We know that life is ever evolving, we ask that cancellations come in a timely fashion so as not to adversely impact other members of the production or class nor the staff.
No cancellations will be accepted within 72 hours of the class.
