Class Experience

Speak up, Speak out! Whether you're an accomplished writer, a hip-hop connoisseur, or someone who has never even rhymed before, this class is for you. Slam poetry is an egalitarian art form where everyone has a voice, and every voice has a microphone. It is a style of poetry that has broken free from rigid structure, giving artists an opportunity to express themselves freely. Slam poetry circles have always been a vehicle for a number of social justice movements, affirming the experiences of POC and LGBTQ individuals.

This program is offered in collaboration with Creative Lives. Using Ellen Tadd’s Framework for Wise Education, we'll be using meditation techniques to tap into our focus, find our inspiration, and affirm our inherent worth. As participants learn the basics of meditation and slam poetry, we'll be accessing our power and expression from the inside-out, bringing our whole selves to the page.

Creative Lives helps young people thrive, develop their character and reach their potential as adults—through a holistic approach to education based on the work of author Ellen Tadd. Creative Lives programs parent and teacher training regionally and nationally, and directs programming for youth in the Upper Valley Region of VT and NH.
