Class Experience

In this fourth trimester (the first 3 months after a person births or a family adds a newborn to their family) group we will offer resources, information, and space to connect and reflect around the raw experiences of new parenthood and to facilitate the transition to your new family rhythm.

Sessions will build on work we've done in the previous week, with immense grace for the reality that sometimes participants may arrive late/leave early. We will have nourishing tea available weekly, art supplies, lactation support, and a library of carriers and wraps for participants to try. There will be time for structured activities as well as for community building and questions.

Katie and Zena will be facilitating primarily through the lens of Birthing from Within. Learn more about both facilitators at their websites: and

This space is welcoming and affirming to LQBTQIA+, black and brown participants, and non-traditional family structures.

Please plan to bring the following to this group:
- Comfortable clothing, space will be accessible for nursing/pumping
- A favorite mug, journal, art supplies if you choose- we will provide options as well
- Anything you need for infant care, we will also have supplies just in case

Through this group, participants will gain
-Confidence around infant care
- Reconnection with the self and knowledge of the new being that is parent/caregiver
- Knowledge around tools for caregiving- soothing methods, feeding options, baby carriers/wraps, cloth diapers, infant massage, postpartum body care, postpartum mental health, postpartum nutrition.

Zena Mackwood is a Full Spectrum Doula and Babywearing Consultant through DONA International, Birthing from Within, and Center for Babywearing Studies. Before nearly full time parenting, Zena’s personal education and work focused around experiential and outdoor environmental education for the National Park Service and Boston University. Zena is interested in creating spaces for new families and parents, providing space for self reflection, art, practical knowledge around caring for a young human, and building lasting community.

Katie Williams’ foundation in the healing arts began with training as a registered nurse, rooted in a maternal child framework through a community and home care paradigm with a trauma focused approach. My training as a holistic practitioner and birth keeper, is dynamic and continuously evolving. Katie is certified as an INNATE provider, Lactation Counselor (CLC) and a Birthing From Within (BFW) mentor. After many blessed and profound experiences at the bedside, attending birth, my practice is now shifting towards the prenatal and postpartum time.
