Class Experience

In his early advertising career Andy Warhol used a method of inking and blotting to create a print on watercolor paper that he then painted with watercolors. Many of his images were fashion oriented: shoes, clothes and also some whimsical birds. You will learn the inking technique first and will have several source images to choose from. You will learn to use calligraphy nib pens with ink to make your design, then paint the final result. Some students may have time to complete more than one painting.

Sue Schlabach is an artist and photographer with over 25 years of background as a Creative Director in art publishing. Her creative practices include en plein air painting, fiber art, watercolor, and mixed media design. On painting outdoors, she loves the immediacy of changing light and weather, and a finite amount of time to choose a composition and get to work. She loves to use large brushes to achieve abstraction and movement. Sue has been painting en plein air with ArtisTree for many years and exhibits regularly in the gallery.
