Kids in the Kitchen (6 weeks, 1x/week, 45 mins)
Ages 3 to 6 years old
Step into the Kitchen with Val Williams (Dilber the Cranky Banana, Songs for Young Whippersnappers, MsEd candidate, American University) for this super fun weekly cooking class where delicious & nutritious is the name of the game!
In this class, students will:
Create a weekly recipe from fun, no-heat ingredients (common allergy substitution ideas will be provided with recipes)
Gain hand strength, focus, & coordination through fine-motor skill building activities during recipe-creation
Build understanding of basic measurement units & fractions
Observe & reflect on the changing state of matter when ingredients are mixed or separated
Gain understanding of the mind-body connection around what, when, & why we eat
Engage in intuitive eating and de-stigmatize foods as good or bad through building understanding of nutritional fundamentals and whole body wellness
Cultivate Joy-Centered Eating and Food Preparation Practices
It is up to the parent's judgement as to how much supervision or assistance your child needs for this class. While none of the recipes will need heat, they will be pouring, cutting , etc.
