Level I - This class is for students with some informal familiarity with the medium.
Unlock your creativity and explore the world of abstract acrylic painting in this one-day workshop. Through a series of demonstrations and activities, you will learn the basic principles of abstraction, including its history, composition, color, and texture. You will also learn a number of painting and mark-making techniques that are conducive to abstract works.
In this workshop, you will create two very small abstract paintings and one larger abstract painting that incorporates elements of chance and intuitive decision making so that your painting evolves and changes through many different iterations. You will start by experimenting with different colors and textures and compositions, gradually building up layers of paint and incorporating different techniques to create a layered, multifaceted abstract work. This workshop is designed for both beginners and intermediate painters who are interested in exploring the world of abstract art.
Through personalized instruction and feedback, you will gain the skills and confidence necessary to create your own abstract masterpieces. By the end of the workshop, you will have a better understanding of the language of abstraction and the techniques necessary to create layered, dynamic abstract works. You will have a beautiful finished painting to take home, as well as the knowledge and inspiration to continue exploring the world of abstract painting on your own.
There will be a lunch break from 12pm-1pm. You may brown bag it or go out to eat.
All enrollments are non-refundable. Students may cancel their enrollment two weeks prior to the start date to receive full class credit less any processing and/or material fees.
