Let's roll up our sleeves for the spring semester of Artshack! In Design Lab, older kids get to work on projects of their choice, guided by Sam Kelly, our incredible teaching artist.

Presented with sophisticated projects, students will have the ability to shape the trajectory of this class with their own vision and creativity. They will have the option to choose from a wide range of techniques to explore, within both ceramics and mixed media.
All students will learn handbuilding as well as how to use the pottery wheel, the slab- roller and the extruder, plus a wide range of pigmented slips, glazes and underglazes. Mixed media topics include printmaking, book binding, watercolors, sculpture and fabric.

We follow the public school calendar, so when public schools are out, there is no Artshack after school.

This is how we do it:

3:00- 3:30: Pickups from various neighborhood schools (for more info on pickup see below)
Class starts at 4:00 but your child can arrive a little early if necessary

4:00- 4:10: Unwind with chatter and BYO snack or ours (we provide pretzels and animal crackers, with the occasional special treat)

4:10- 5:20: over an hour of enriching arts education in a community setting, taught with care by working artists

5:20- 5:30: Clean Up

5:30 Dismissal

5:30- 6:00: Extended day/ Homework Lounge ($10/ day extra- you must choose all days in the semester)

Tuition Includes:
2 makeup classes (for use with Kids on the Wheel (drop off, value $80), Saturdays from 10-12)
All materials, firing fees, and snacks
Inclusion in the end of year exhibition of art made by kids
For no additional fee, you may pay in 2 installments at checkout

School Pickups:
For $10/ day extra, we can pick up your child from one of the schools on our pickup list.
We offer supervised drawing and fun between pick up and the start of afterschool.

We follow the public school calendar. This means that when NYC public schools are out, there is no Artshack class.

We take photos during our classes and occasionally post them to our social media outlets. If you do not want your child to be photographed, please let us know.

Regular pick up is at 5:30 PM. You may sign up for the semester of Extended Day which goes until 6:00 PM.  If you are not signed up for extended day and you pick up later than 5:40 we will charge your card on file for extended day ($15).  If you are continuously late for pickup (more than 3 times) we will charge your card for the entire semester of extended day.  If you have already signed up for extended day and are later than 6:00 PM, we will charge you a late fee of $40 per late day.
