What is Micaceous clay? It's a low-fire clay that can go on the stovetop. It has micah mixed into it and fires, at a low tempurature, to a sparkly red or white. Traditionally, Native American pottery is made with it using the coil technique, but you can take this gorgeous clay on the wheel too! This mica clay is rough and possesses little plasticity. It looks beautiful burnished or polished using a bit of leather. We're importing it specially from New Mexico just for this class!
In this class we'll make all sorts of stove-faring vessels: Sparkly bean pots and skillets, and yes, they can go directly on the stove top - and yes! We mean on the flame!

Price includes two makeup classes, studio clay, glazes and slips, plus unlimited studio time during our open hours. $25 extra for firing fee (this covers up to 10 items. After 10 items you pay regular firing fees). If you'd like to work with a specific type of clay, 3 different clay bodies are available for purchase in the studio. Continuing students get 10% off adult multiple week sessions: continuing student discount applies only to students taking contiguous classes. We are a non profit. A portion of your tuition goes towards scholarships for neighborhood kids to take our classes for free.

PLEASE NOTE: You must pay in full to reserve your spot in class. You are only eligible for 2 makeup classes if you pay full price. If you join after the first session, you can take 1 makeup class, and if you join more than halfway through, you cannot take any makeup classes. CANCELLATION POLICY: To receive a refund or transfer, requests must be received one week prior to the first day of class. After that time, no refunds or transfers will be issued. Makeup classes are allowed within 2 weeks of your missed classes. If you join a class once it's already in session, we do not offer refunds. If you need to drop out of a class once it has begun due to personal injury we cannot issue a refund. However, if we receive an official doctor's note, we can try to move you into the following session pending availability. For family emergencies, sick pets, moving, and all other issues, we do not offer refunds. Please note if you are paying in installments: we offer the option to pay in installments as a courtesy to the customer. The second installment of your payment is not negotiable for any reason.
