Class Experience

BackStory Theatre Academy's (BSTA) fantastic performance-based program build skills for performance, confidence, team work, and key STEAM learning skills such as active listening, working memory, and creative collaboration! Class focuses on exploring foundational performance skills for musical theatre while building strong bonds through rehearsal and ensemble support. Students will learn simple songs and choreography as they prepare to perform a scripted show on stage.

A dancing cat, a howling dog, and a vampire bunny. The perfect pet combination for any family. It’s a dark and stormy night and Chester (the family cat) and Harold (the family dog) sit waiting for their owners to return home from the movies. Chester and Harold are more than just pets, they’re good friends too. When the Monroes finally get home, they come bearing a surprise: they’ve found a bunny in the movie theater. But this is no ordinary rabbit… this is the extraordinary Bunnicula. When the family’s produce starts losing its juice, Chester thinks he knows what’s causing the fantastic phenomenon. Bunnicula is a vampire! Or maybe Chester’s imagination is getting the better of him. Singing and dancing their way through this hilarious mystery, the furry friends find room in their hearts, and in their home, for one very unique bunny.

At the end of the session, the cast will perform this super fun musical based on the classic kids book for public audiences at the Broomfield Auditorium.

CLASS MEETS: MON-FRI 6/21-7/1 9:00am - 12:00pm @ BackStory Theatre (555 Burbank St, Unit Q, Broomfield, CO 80020 - we are the last unit in the last building on your left as you enter the parking lot.)

All actors will need help practicing lines at home; we recommend at least 15 focused minutes every day. Students should wear clothes they can move freely in and closed-toed shoes (there is an area in the lobby to leave snow boots). Flip-flops and other slip-on shoes present tripping hazards in class. Please bring a WATER BOTTLE, pencil, and highlighter to every class. Once scripts are distributed, they should also be brought to every class. While focus games & activities are incorporated into class time for skill building, the focus will be on performance rehearsals to develop a deep understanding of stage terminology, thorough character development, blocking, stage projection, pacing, and ensemble support. Performance and other class details will be sent by the directing team during the class week to the email used to register for class. PLEASE DO NOT SEND SNACKS WITH NUTS OR ANYTHING "CRUMBLY". WATER ONLY - SUGARY & DYED BEVERAGES MAY DAMAGE COSTUMES & PROPS. Students will be asked to provide their own solid black shoes (no sneakers, please) for performance night and any baselayer (leggings/shorts/shirt) to wear under their costume. Costumes & props provided by BackStory. PLEASE SAVE THIS INFORMATION & CLASS DATES/TIMES WHEN REGISTERING. Please be mindful of prompt drop-off and pick-up times as late arrivals negatively impact the entire cast and late pick-ups may prevent instructors from meeting other evening performance and teaching obligations.
