Bring the best first impression to your musical theatre auditions with this amazing workshop packed with tips and techniques! Join the directing team for our upcoming Fall Musical to learn what you need to develop or improve upon your audition package. Felicia Bredenberg (Stage Director) will cover monologue selection and work with individuals who have pre-selected pieces; Kelly Graham (Music Director) & Preston Adams (Vocal Coach/Co Music Director) will review specific song options for this audition, talk about how to use a live accompanist in audition, and teach you how to choose the best audition piece to showcase your range and skills; Paola Behning (Choreographer) will run through basic dance steps commonly requested in musical theatre and provide valuable lessons on counting, what choreographers are looking for, and what to expect during an audition; Mary Wilkie (Executive Director) along with some other Backstory familiar faces including Kendle Butterworth and Sam Dei Rossi, will review individual slates (audition introductions), talk resumes and more! With so much to learn, you won't want to miss this comprehensive advanced skills workshop!

What To Bring:
Bring any monologues or sheet music/accompaniment tracks for songs you've been working on, or are thinking about preparing.
A pencil and notebook
Comfortable clothes you can move and dance in.
Close toed shoes (No Flip Flops)
Lunch/Snacks - NO CRUMBLY FOODS - NO SUGARY DRINKS
Sealable Water Bottle
PLEASE DO NOT SEND SNACKS WITH NUTS OR ANYTHING "CRUMBLY". WATER ONLY - SUGARY & DYED BEVERAGES MAY DAMAGE COSTUMES & PROPS.

Sample Class Format

  • 9 - 9:30 - Welcome and explanation of why we do this workshop and info on the fall Musical.
  • 9:30 - 11am - Choosing Monologues, presenting monologues, and practicing slating/performing monologues
  • 11 - 12:30 - Choosing your audition song, working with an accompanist, practicing/performing/learning audition songs for the show
  • 12:30 - 1pm - Lunch Break
  • 1pm - 2:30pm - Preparing for a Dance Audition
  • 2:30 - 3:00pm - Wrap up, ask us questions about the auditioning process, show/rehearsal process, resumes other jobs in the show, etc.

Meet your Instructor

Paola B.

Paola Osma-Behning Born in Bogota, Colombia. She started to train in Dance and acting at a very young age. Went to school to get her master degree in Dramatic arts and Movement from the A.S.A.B in Bogota. She moved in 2003 to the States to work with C.U Boulder as an exchange dance teacher. Started her performing production company called “ En Fuego Productions” were she produced, directed and choreographed different shows accomplishing a great success combining professional and community dance
