Children learn basic coding principles by building a story of their own design. Initially they will follow the instructor as she models her story. The child will then be challenged to modify the story applying coding techniques learned. Children are encouraged to work on projects off-line, between classes and Instructors offer optional "Lab Time" to work with interested students after classes to check in, ask questions and get personal attention outside of regular classes.
Throughout this course, students will apply their understanding of algorithms and programming and illustrate a personal story in a sequential manner. Even Pixar will be impressed with the final creations!
Note: This class is for girls, in alignment with the nonprofit mission to inspire more girls to pursue STEM. Co-ed classes are also available.

Boolean Girl is a DC-area based nonprofit that has operated STEM summer camps and year-round STEM programs for girls since 2014. Our mission is to educate girls to code, build, invent, and animate. We provide all-girl and (for 2020) co-ed virtual programs, camps, after-school clubhouses, Girl Scout events, and Boolean University online. Our summer camps have been top-rated by regional media outlets and campers alike for years. Working with the Qualcomm® Thinkabit Lab™ at Virginia Tech, National Capital Region, we launched our virtual Full STEM Ahead program in March 2020 to air live, instructor-led distance learning events for children and teens to introduce engineering and coding projects and encourage kids to code, build, invent, and animate. Our approach to STEM learning is engaging and personalized, and we count among our co-founders engineers, software developers, and product developers.
Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org with any questions. We will reply promptly.
Inperson summer camps will happen with large college size classrooms for social distancing and all CDC recommended safety precautions!
This class will be hosted on Zoom video conferencing platform. You will receive an email 30 minutes before class starts with a link to the class and access instructions. We recommend you make sure your device is up to date and meets all system requirements before class.
