Children learn basic coding principles by building a story of their own design. Initially, they'll follow an instructor to learn to model a story. Then, participants will be challenged to modify the story, applying the coding techniques learned.
Students are encouraged to work on projects off-line and instructors will provide optional "Lab Time" to work with students 1:1 after classes to check in and respond to ask questions.
Throughout this course, kids will apply their understanding of algorithms and programming and illustrate a personal story in a sequential manner. Even Pixar will be impressed with the final creations!
1) Classes alternate. The first class is a lesson. The class that follows is a lab where children apply the skills learned in the prior class.
During the 1 Hr class session, instruction is provided and students are given short periods to apply their learning
During the lab time, instructors work with students is smaller groups and 1:1, Instructors may provide instruction specific to projects the kids are working on. Children are encouraged to ask questions and get personal attention outside of regular classes.
2) Students are encouraged to work between the classes on their own or in the lab.
3) This class is co-ed. In alignment with our nonprofit mission to inspire more girls to pursue STEM, all-girl classes are also available.

This class will be conducted in Scratch either online at scratch.mit.edu or on your Boolean Box. We encourage you to create a user account in Scratch before the class begins.
This class will be on Zoom. We recommend connecting to Zoom with the same computer you will code on so your child can share her screen with the instructor.
Inperson summer camps will happen with large college size classrooms for social distancing and all CDC recommended safety precautions!
