General Summary: Full-day program which focuses on the empowerment of girls and self esteem. The instructors of this program are all strong, intelligent women to serve as role models. This camp includes all the elements of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) and daily P.E. The science themes revolve around the idea of healthy body, healthy mind, and healthy relationships.
Detailed Summary:
June 24 – 28: The Science of a Healthy Mind
Science: The mind is a powerful tool. Students will explore the science of the nervous system including the how neural pathways are formed to create new skills. In Science class girls will dissect a brain and learn about how the different regions in the brain control various body functions and personality traits. They will learn techniques to keep the brain healthy through fun games and hands-on activities. Students will explore how lack of sleep or too much stress can have a negative impact on learning and thinking.
Art: Students will use their learning about the brain to create mind-blowing art pieces from a variety of fine art techniques including origami, watercolor painting and chalk pastels.
Technology Exploration Stations: Students will engage in technology-based activities and centers that may include: video editing with WeVideo, Makey Makey, virtual reality, video game design with Scratch, computer programming with Raspberry Pi, and Green Screen.
