Description
General Summary: Full-day program which focuses on the empowerment of girls and self esteem. The instructors of this program are all strong, intelligent women to serve as role models. This camp includes all the elements of S.T.E.A.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Mathematics) and daily P.E. The science themes revolve around the idea of healthy body, healthy mind, and healthy relationships.
Detailed Description:
July 8 – 12: The Science of Healthy Eating
Science: Why is nutrition an important factor in becoming healthy and strong? Girls ages 9-13 need a specific nutrients to feed their changing bodies and developing brains. Students will learn the science behind healthy eating and will taste some healthy snack choices. Students will do chemistry lab activities to explore the structure and function of proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids. Students will investigate the role of many vitamins and minerals to learn why they need them in their diets them healthy and energized.
Art: Students will use various fine art mediums to create stunning art pieces such as a still-life drawing of healthy foods. Students will even use fruits and vegetables as tools to paint abstract art.
Technology Exploration Stations: Students will engage in technology-based activities and centers that may include: video editing with WeVideo, Makey Makey, virtual reality, video game design with Scratch, computer programming with Raspberry Pi, and Green Screen.
