Youth Ensemble is an introductory training orchestra that bridges early instrumental instruction with the Charlotte Symphony Youth Orchestra's intermediate and advanced ensembles. Serving approximately 20–30 musicians, the program provides a welcoming environment where students begin developing the skills needed for successful ensemble participation.

Rehearsals introduce foundational concepts such as listening within the ensemble, basic rehearsal procedures, and collaborative music-making, with regular coaching from Charlotte Symphony musicians and conducting staff.

No audition is required for placement; however, students should have at least one year of instruction on their instrument and demonstrate a basic level of playing proficiency before joining the ensemble.
Private lessons and participation in school music programs are encouraged whenever possible.
