Come take an imaginary journey to Haiti, Cuba, Guinea, the Congo and beyond! Get ready to travel through the African Diaspora with a series of creative movement classes featuring a combination of song, dance, and play – designed to ignite children’s creative voices and nurture their freedom of expression.

This is a lively class for toddlers who are comfortable on their feet, featuring games, interactive stories,
dance, drum, and song sequences. Parents and guardians should come ready to play and participate!

Teacher’s Bio: Goussy Célestin
Deemed a "Renaissance Woman", in the New York Times, Brooklyn born Haitian-American artist Goussy Célestin interchanges the roles of pianist, composer, vocalist, dancer, and arranger with ease. Goussy is proud to join Cumbe's dance faculty as Creative Movement teacher for Cumbe's youngest dancers!
Goussy has performed for the last two decades for audiences locally, nationally and in Cuba, England, Haiti, Wales, and Japan. A graduate of a prestigious music and arts high school in New York City, Goussy continued her studies with such esteemed artists as, Ron Carter, Jimmy Heath, Donald Byrd, Barry Harris, Jaki Byard and Sheila Jordan. Goussy's current mission is integrating all of her disciplines in her upcoming project, incorporating elements of traditional Haitian folklore and Jazz. As an educator, Goussy's teaching spans 2 decades teaching both music and dance. She has taught at Mark Morris Dance school, for various programs in the city, and holds community dance classes at Project Life Center, a women's center in Queens. Currently, Goussy is a faculty member for the Middle School Jazz Academy and WeBop programs at Jazz at Lincoln Center. She is also mother to two young boys, ages 4yr and 7yr - what she calls her "greatest creative compositions". Goussy Célestin is a recipient of The Field Artist Fellowship and is also a Create Change fellow with The Laundromat Project.
