This is a family learning event. Children attend with a parent or caregiver, and adults are expected to remain on-site and participate alongside their children. Adults play an important role in supporting observation, asking questions, and assisting with hands-on activities such as tree tapping and sap collection when applicable.

Educators and partners will lead demonstrations and provide guidance throughout the day. Adults are asked to help ensure a safe, respectful environment and to supervise children who are not directly engaged in activities.

Join us for a hands-on maple tapping education and demonstration class! Families are invited to learn how sap is collected and transformed into maple syrup through live demonstrations, tree identification, and seasonal science. This event is free to attend, with an optional maple tree adoption experience for families who want to participate more deeply.

This seasonal education day introduces families to the science, ecology, and tradition of maple tapping through live demonstration and hands-on learning. Participants will learn how maple trees produce sap, why late winter is the ideal time for tapping, and how sap is collected and boiled into syrup.

Families may attend freely to observe, ask questions, and learn together. Those who choose to adopt a maple tree with a $25 donation will take part in a guided, hands-on experience: helping to tap a tree, naming it, and attaching sap collection buckets. Sap from all adopted trees is collected together and boiled communally as part of the educational process.

Educators and students from Stockton University will join Deeply Rooted Learning Center to support demonstrations, share ecological knowledge, and help guide participants through each step of the process.

If sap yields allow, families may enjoy maple syrup samples at the conclusion of the tapping season with an 'end of season' celebration at a later time once sap collection and boiling are complete.

Maple Tree Adoption – Optional ($25 donation)

Families who adopt a maple tree will:

Help tap a real maple tree
Name their tree
Attach sap collection buckets
Receive updates as sap is collected and boiled

All sap is combined and processed together as part of the shared learning experience.
