Please note that for this course, students are required to be able to comfortably comprehend and interact in German within a wide variety of contexts and settings, for example, media and current events. Advanced Conversation focuses primarily on student language production. The class offers methodical practice for listening and speaking. Classes are centered around thematic units (politics, history, culture, literature, current events) selected as a class by participants. Students should expect to spend some time outside of class preparing for discussions. Classes incorporate authentic, German-language media as stimulus for discussion and analysis. This course can be taken multiple times, as the topics covered vary by semester. Additionally, this course can be joined mid-Semester.

For homework, students are encouraged to review and seek out new vocabulary related to the topic of the next class. Additionally, each class will begin with a speaking prompt based on the previous class' topic. Students can elect to prepare for this, where more advanced students are encouraged to try to speak more extemporaneously.
