Description
DESCRIPTION
This class emphasizes vocabulary acquisition, simple conversation, and the structure of the German language using traditional methods of instruction. Students will be able to understand and use everyday expressions, be able to introduce him/herself and others as well as ask others about themselves. – e.g where they live, who they know and what they own – and can respond to questions of this nature. Students will be able to communicate in a simple manner if the person they are speaking to speaks slowly and clearly and is willing to help. They will have elementary use of the German language.
This class is faster paced and will skip the first six weeks of this course covering the first part of the Menschen: Deutsch als Fremdsprache (A1) textbook and is designed for beginning students as well as those who already know some German. The class will focus on understanding and producing beginner-level sentences in the present tense, and is meant to be a building block to greater fluency and comfort with the language.
If you don't want to start at the very beginning because you already know a little bit of German or you started a class and had to cancel mid semester, this class might be for you.
Following the completion of German 1a & German 1b, students should be prepared to take the A1 Goethe Institute proficiency exam, if they desire.
