Songwriting Camp will facilitate and encourage creativity through the craft of songwriting. Exploring styles, generating ideas, and enjoying the sheer fun of expression, campers will write 1-3 original songs. They will aquire the tools necessary to establish the lifetime of joy that can arise from this unique and freeing art form. Whether the campers are heading toward careers as musicians or just want to relieve stress by playing with words and melodies, this camp has something for everyone.
Mandy Rowden is a lifelong musician and multi-instrumentalist. She has played all around the US with various bands on guitar, bass, mandolin, keys, drums, and violin. In March of 2007, after having taught privately for 10 years, she combined her love of teaching, playing, and good old-fashioned fun to form Girl Guitar!
Mandy currently plays original music with her band and released a 2021 album titled "Parachute," on which she played all guitars, piano, mandolin, cavaquinho, most of the violin, and some of the bass. Her 2018 Album "When That Day Comes" from Howlin' Dog Records, was nominated for Album of the Year in the Josie Music Awards. "1,000 Miles," released in 2016, garnered her a place among the Top Ten Musicians of the Year in the Austin Chronicle Music Poll. Her 2015 album titled "These Bad Habits" (#2 Album of the Year, Austin Chronicle Music Poll) featured Lloyd Maines (Dixie Chicks), Redd Volkaert (Merle Haggard), and Brad Rice (Sunvolt). Mandy is endorsed by Elixir Strings and Supro and is a Lee Oskar Harmonicas Preferred Player.
When not playing, touring, teaching, recording, or writing, Mandy spends her time in South Austin with her family and two gray kitty cats, and, in her downtime, is pursuing a Master's Degree in Music History at Texas State University.
