Class Experience
Join us in the field for after-school exploration, community building, and fun across the seasons. Activities include hiking, journaling, sensory awareness games, nature crafts,
improv, and more! Our highly trained staff will facilitate lasting relationships and reveal the incredible biodiversity of our local environment.
Sample Class Format
Snapshot of our typical day at HAWKs LA
- 2:30-2:45 pm (or whenever your school's dismissal time is)- counselors pick up students from school
- 2:45-3:05 pm- Drive or walk to outdoor program location
- 3:05-3:15- Opening Circle

Thumb-dar (gauging students' energy level)
- 3:15-3:30 pm- Snack & Water Break
We’ll make sure to have snack in the shade on hot days
- 3:30-4:00 pm-Start our hike
We’ll make sure to have plenty of water breaks along the way
- 4:00-4:50 pm – Game / Supervised Free Explore Time/Arts & Crafts / Creative Activities
For younger students, more nature-focused games such as “Hawk Eye,” “Night at the Museum,” “Baby Deer,” and “Rock, Paper, Scissors, Grow” and introduction to native plants.
For older students, time to free explore, practice native plant ID with counselors, and more advanced games

- 4:50-5:15 pm- Hike back to Pick-Up Location
- 5:15 - 5:30 pm – Closing Circle

What To Bring
Required Camper Supplies:
- 32oz. Water bottle (Educators carry a water bladder for refills)
Filling Snacks
- Quick Dry clothing (if possible)
- Light Jacket (on cool days)
- Warm Jacket (on cold days)
- Positive and responsible attitudes!
Optional Camper Supplies: (Not required, but students often like having the following):
- Mask - Optional
- Personal bottle of hand sanitizer
- Binoculars
- Extra Bandana
- Magnifying Glass
- Drawing utensils (10 max)
- Change of Clothing (Recommended for students under 7 years old.)
