These tailor-made, one-on-one or small group sessions focus on learning Spanish through a project-based language-learning curriculum and are designed to engage students directly with the cultural products, practices, perspectives, and social injustices facing people of Latin America and the Spanish-speaking community of Los Angeles. Through the study of authentic resources such as interviews, news media, literature, music, and film, students will connect culture to real world experiences using a sequence of key themes including interpersonal relationships and community, learning about their strengths and talents, connecting passions to the real world, and methods of serving our community and the world at large.

In these sessions students will practice 3 modes of communication: interpersonal, interpretive, and presentational, all through an immersion approach. Units connect with the CA Global Education Project’s Global Competency Framework, domains and indicators in order to build intercultural competency. Upon completion of this course, students should be in NCSSLFL-ACTFL Global Can-Do Benchmark range of Intermediate-Low to Mid (See: CA WL Standards 2019)

EXPERIENCE
- For intermediate to advanced students between the ages of 12 and 18 interested in learning Spanish in an interactive and project-based approach.
- Students will delve into the cultural products, practices, perspectives, and social injustices facing people of Latin America and the Spanish-Speaking community of Los Angeles.
