Description
This class introduces students to all the basic methods of working with clay. From Handbuilding Techniques (like Pinch Pots, Coil Pots, & Slab construction) to Throwing on the Pottery Wheel, we will discuss personal goals and provide more advanced demos as student progress. Students of all skill levels are welcome to participate. *NEW STUDENTS ONLY will receive one 25 lb. bag of clay that will last the entire first session. Clay will be available for sale to other students.
Typical Schedule for *New Student* 8 Week Session: Day 1: Intro to Clay/Hand-building Techniques (Slab, Coil, Pinch), Day 2: Intro to Pottery Wheel, Day 3: Intro to Glazing/Surface Decoration, Day 4, 5 & 6: Studio Work Days (Demos of Bowls, Vases, Altered Thrown Pieces), Day 7: Concentrate on Glazing, Day 8: Last Day to Finish up works
*Note for more Advanced students: Once you have taken 2 Sessions of Pottery Classes (8 weeks), you may opt to become a Leaping Dog Pottery “Member” and enroll at a slightly reduced rate. Please ask about this by email (leapingdogartstudios@gmail.com) or telephone (609-400-5623)
Ceramics can be messy! Be sure to wear clothes you don't mind getting messy in. An old towel is handy for throwing on the wheel. Students are welcome to use studio clay tools but can bring their own if they feel more comfortable doing so. *Due to COVID, we will require masks to be worn at all times and will remind students to keep a 6 foot distance whenever possible.
