Wed, Sep 2, 2020 - Dec 16, 2020
7:00pm - 8:30pm CDT
Participants work in class to begin developing their listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills relating to everyday expressions, talking about themselves and others (profession, name, age, residence, hobbies, etc.), and about everyday objects (furniture, office technology, etc.).This course covers chapters 1 - 6 of the Menschen A1 course book..
The A1 courses are for those who are looking to learn German from the beginning in a formal setting. Students are in an immersion setting from the very first class in A1.1; all courses are conducted primarily in German. The 3 courses cover the Menschen A1 coursebook. The content covered in the class is supplemented by a workbook, which students complete independently outside of class to review and practice what's explored in class. Note that these are German-language textbooks.
Those who fully participate in and complete A1.1, A1.2, and A1.3, typically over the span of 3 semesters, will ideally be prepared for the A1 Goethe Exam, recognized globally as proof of German language ability. Read more about the Goethe Institute and their language exams here: https://www.goethe.de/en/index.html.

I love everything about the class. It’s a great pace and the instructor is amazing! I have taken other foreign language classes before. This is the first time I really feel like I’m learning the language in a proficient manner.
Maybe less students in class. 12 isn’t bad but you can get more conversational practice if the classes are smaller with less people in them. Maybe no more than 6.

Great class, so glad I found out about it.
The speed of the 90 minute class was more than I could handle as a novice to the language. The time expectations outside of class should be communicated at pre-registration so individuals are aware of the time commitment needed. After six weeks I fell way behind and had to go it alone with the online presentations to be able to move at a much slower pace.

Olha has been very patient and encouraging with us. She explains concepts well, and helps the students apply those concepts with good leading questions and clues. There have been several technical issues along the way, and she has quickly assessed the situation and found solutions. I also appreciate her recommendations for outside resources, like translation dictionaries and videos to help learn conjugation and numbers.
