Description
The Renaissance Child offers a strong curriculum taught by dedicated teachers who will be there to keep your family’s learning goals intact and work to catch your child up from anything they may have missed during the adjusted spring term. STEAM education at The Renaissance Child can help with the basics, the English, the Math but also, let’s not forget that our children need exposure to the arts, music, and more to help them to grow and to find and express themselves.
In this biweekly class, students will have Math, English (every other class Grammar Essentials/writing process or Reading Comprehension and Strategy), rotate between STEAM, Spanish, Coding, and extra time for homework/assignments help.
ENGLISH
1)Grammar Essentials and Writing Practices: Students will master the mechanics of English grammar and learn how to proofread their writing and create structured writing pieces.
2.)Reading Comprehension Strategies: Students will learn strategies for Standardized test-taking and develop reading stamina to facilitate focus needed to succeed on standardized tests and lengthy exams.
MATH
We will combine advanced math curriculum by Beast Academy and Kangaroo Math competition prep (logic, critical thinking, word problems)
Coding with Scratch.
Each week we will explore a science topic through animations and games using the Scratch platform. Kids will learn how to program their own interactive stories and solve problems designing their projects.
STEAM
Our goal is to teach students through project-based learning how to combine each of the five disciplines (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Math) and foster an inclusive learning environment in which all kids are able to engage and contribute. Through this innovative approach, students are able to exercise both sides of their brain at once.
CODING with SCRATCH
Each week we will explore a science topic through animations and games using the Scratch platform. Kids will learn how to program their own interactive stories and solve problems designing their projects.
SPANISH
Intermediate level course will assist students in developing intermediate level speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills while exposing them to Spanish cultures. Additionally, students will make connections with English grammar and learn memory devices to retain and build fluency.
The Class size is small. Each child will have a separate desk and individual work supplies. Kids are encouraged to wear masks but don't have to since they won't be sitting close to each other. Teachers will be wearing a mask. Temperature and symptoms check will be administered before entering the studio. Parents are not allowed inside the facility, drop-off only. Parents have to take turns to drop-off/pick-up their kids and not to come upstairs if another student or parent at the door. If a student had a contact with a person with a confirmed COVID-19 case a student has to be quarantined for 14 days prior to returning to the studio. If a child within the pod got sick with COVID-19 all parents will be informed and the pod will be moved online for 14 days.
WHAT YOUR CHILD WILL NEED FOR EACH CLASS:
Parents will have to purchase some workbooks and notebooks for the English class.
Kids will need a Chromebook or Laptop for Coding with Scratch
