Class Experience

Love playing games on Roblox? Join us to design your own mini-games and test them with other young designers.

This camp will introduce game design using design thinking. Participants will use the design process and coding to make mini games in Scratch and Roblox Studio.

No prior coding experience is necessary!

Campers will start by learning block coding in Scratch and move to Lua scripting with Roblox Studio. They’ll test their games with collaborators and practice designing for user experience.

Over the course of the week, we’ll explore and create games in various styles.

This is an introductory course that will teach participants how to use Roblox Studio for game development, create a coding foundation with Scratch, introduce Lua for script coding for Roblox, and use the design process and design thinking for human-centered game creation.

Campers Will:

Learn about Design
Use the Design Process
Learn about and practice designing for user experience (UX)
Practice design thinking Participate in collaborative design
Learn block coding using Scratch
Learn introductory script coding
Learn to use Roblox Studio
Use Roblox Studio to create and test mini games
Develop creative confidence
Develop programming skills
Develop collaborative online skills
Create and present projects online
Practice design thinking as a problem-solving method

Your camper will need to have access to Roblox Studio in order to participate in this camp.

Roblox Studio runs only on an Apple or PC. It will not work with Chromebooks or tablets.

Campers will also need to sign up for Roblox.

How To Participate

Attend class via Zoom video

This class will be hosted on Zoom video conferencing platform. You will receive an email 30 minutes before class starts with a link to the class and access instructions. We recommend you make sure your device is up to date and meets all system requirements before class.

Structured activities and the videos.


I feel the instructor did not have a great handle on motivating or redirecting boys in this age group. There was more independent work time and less structured tasks. Also it seemed that the skill level should have been narrowed down to reduce the gap. Students who were more experienced were left waiting around for students who were struggling a large part of the day.

I loved that my son was inspired to create after viewing different cities.


I did not like the links to online gaming. There are a lot of parents who still do not let their children play online games at this age. My son had access to other games not recommended by the instructor as well with the links.

The making of the Lego mini game. The teacher was very knowledgeable and made the class fun.


Unity crashed all the time, so maybe a better game platform.
