Class Experience

Love stories and storytelling? Interested in how writing, storytelling, and coding can come together to make a fabulous online adventure? This is the camp for you!

In this camp, you’ll share some of the stories that inspire you, and then learn what makes a compelling narrative, how to keep stories exciting, and how to design different narrative paths. Then, you’ll start building your own interactive story games. In the process, you’ll get an introduction to Twine, an open-source tool for telling interactive stories.

Throughout the week, you’ll share your work with other campers, give and receive feedback, and share with family and friends. You’ll also learn how to publish your digital adventure stories and share them with the world, if you want to do so.

Campers Will:
Learn about storytelling and narrative structure
Write an interactive story
Bring their story to life in a coding-intensive format that includes characters, settings, and more
Learn how to involve the reader in their story

Improve coding skills
Learn what it means to design something for someone else to use
Become familiar with Twine, an online platform they can keep using for schoolwork and play
Share stories with one another
Give and receive feedback
Share stories with family and friends

Materials & Technology Needed:
Computer, Chromebook, or Tablet with a reliable internet connection

This was the best virtual camp my child has attended! My son continued to work on his project even when the class ended each day! Moda exceeded my expectations! I highly recommend them for virtual and in person camps!

I would recommend when having to download a specific app or program, to give clear instructions on which one to choose.

My 8-year-old daughter loved it, and wants to sign up for more like it this summer! I am grateful for the virtual option, too.

For “pirates or Vikings” she really wanted to do Vikings.
