Class Experience

Love playing games, both online and IRL? In this camp we’re going to dive into game design and learn what makes games fun as we create our own!

We’ll spend some of our days learning about games as we play them, from video games to board games and from role-playing games to physical games. We’ll design and create our own games, trying out ideas, creating game boards and pieces, writing rules, and sharing our creations with each other.

Each camper will receive a board game kit by mail and will use art materials like markers, crayons, and paint to craft their gaming experience. We’ll also work with online platforms that allow us to design and code our own games, and explore ways to play all kinds of games with one another online!

Campers will learn:

How games are designed and created
About types of games and the history of games
What makes games fun
About the design process, including empathy building, collaboration, rapid iteration, and testing
How to design and create their own board game
How to design and code their own video game
How to come up with new physical games and role-playing games
Innovative ways for playing games with others online

Tech & Supply Requirements:

A strong internet connection is necessary
Any device including laptops, desktops, tablets, or Chromebooks

Registrants are required to purchase a board game kit at registration ($35) to be delivered to camper's home.

Loved:

This was the best virtual camp my child has attended! My son continued to work on his project even when the class ended each day! Moda exceeded my expectations! I highly recommend them for virtual and in person camps!

Improvements:

I would recommend when having to download a specific app or program, to give clear instructions on which one to choose.
