Description
Join in for an event the whole family can enjoy! Tonight, we'll gather on Zoom with our virtual community and dive into a series of crafts. Our theme tonight will be: shrinky dinks! When was the last time you shrinky dinked, huh? It is an adorably rewarding process, guaranteed to bring joy to your family art table.
.
Here is what you'll need:
- shrinky dink film
- permanent markers
- a pair of scissors
- a hole puncher
- a baking tray
- access to an oven
.
For anyone who has been in my orbit for a while, you'll know that I live and teach in Austin, Texas multiple weeks out of every year. My heart has been aching over damage, loss, and collapse happening to the infrastructure of the community. We'll be using this upcoming March Family Night as a way to give back to Austin. 50% of our raised proceeds for https://www.amplifyatx.org/.
You'll want to be sure to proof your area ahead of time! Be sure to choose a space in the house that is mess-friendly. I'd recommend having a few baking trays nearby, your oven set to 350 degrees F (bake time is a mere 3.5 minutes for a batch of shrinky dinks). I find it easiest to put sharpies in a bunch of cups. If you have coloring books that have nice bold lines, these are great templates to use when illustrating your shrinky dinks.
.
.
Be sure to grab a snack and some water. Did you know that artists can get hangry in record time?

Loved:
Alex is amazing and her enthusiasm is infectious! My daughter loved the lava lamp project and proudly demonstrated it to her grandmother on FaceTime. Alex’s ability to work so well and really understand kids is a gift. Her ability to help them explore their creative side, when so many fun activities have been stifled or canceled due to COVID, is nothing short of amazing!
Improvements:
It would be great to creat a class for the 13-14 year old crew! It’s arguably the one of the hardest ages to be dealing with Covid.

Alex is amazing with the kids, even in a remote setting. She keeps up a steady stream of checking in with each kid and giving them individual encouragement and appreciation. The activities are approachable for a wide range of ages. I love seeing the creativity and pride she brings out of my kid!

Loved:
She is so engaging! The kids have so much fun and have a chance to be creative. They're 100% remote schooling during the pandemic (so they have major Zoom fatigue) but they look forward to this all week. Alex is WONDERUL!!
Improvements:
Nothing. She's fabulous.
