Students will use the beloved and popular Minecraft platform as a gateway to learning the properties of electricity. In Minecraft, they will design machines that use pistons, levers, buttons, traps, and combination locks. They do this by using the game’s version of circuitry (called “Redstone”) to power buildings. The curriculum is designed for maximum fun coupled with hands-on learning. Robofun believes that good teaching recognizes that each child has their own learning style. Our teachers create an environment that allows students to progress at their own pace, practice collaboration, and fall in love with learning. Programs focus on developing confidence, grit, and the desire to solve problems. Requirements for this program include access to a laptop or iPad and a subscription to the Java edition of Minecraft. Please note that Chromebooks cannot run the Minecraft software.

My daughter really enjoyed it and could collaborate with the other kids in the class.
not sure it was worth the price though! She said she knew much of what they did already and seemed more like an online facilitated play date. Also, Was a bit of a rough start, as instructor was having to help each individual kid get set up on different set ups and no other parents seemed available. Might have helped to give instructions ahead of time for how to get into the right Minecraft world, etc.

This class instilled a love of Minecraft almost immediately with my child. She wants to play and create all the time. I also really liked the theme of the week. It was thoughtful and designed to get kids to think about architecture in a new way. Opening and closing circle were nice ways for them to try to connect with other kids.
I think the class is a little too independent for kids this young 5, 6,7. Though they need time to create, teaching some basic skills And better explaining assignments could Be helpful. For example, My daughter was told to build a replica but she didn’t know what that was and so didn’t follow the assignment. Breakout rooms worked great but they might also be better arranged more along level of experience with the program.

RoboFun offers dynamic workshops for children using cutting edge technologies. Children ages 3 – 12 (Pre-K to 6th grade) come to our studio on 102nd Street and Broadway in Manhattan to build and program robots, design and construct video games and make stop-motion animations. Your child will learn about engineering, coding, and creative thinking. Our work is based on children’s innate passion and curiosity and our workshops allow children to become makers and designers. We run creative after-school programs and train teachers in over 100 schools in the New York City area.
