Class Experience

This camp runs July 12 - 16 and August 9 - 13.
We’re reviving our original Pop-Up Restaurant Camp where campers spent the week learning restaurant-quality dishes from the pros, planning out all the design aspects of their eatery, and then inviting their family to the big finale -- but we’re doing it from home!
This camp is especially for our younger campers who love “playing restaurant.” Campers will plan out their meal, learn some pro-restaurant tips from a few of our chef friends, create some beautiful one-of-a-kind table scapes (linens, candles, flowers!) write out invitations and menus for their family, and of course, cook the whole meal. (Mark your calendar for Friday evening!) Each day includes both cooking and crafting.
Depending on age and experience, some tasks may require a hand from an adult; you know your child best. This camp is limited to 12 children per class so our staff can be on hand looking closely at each participant’s screen, but children will be asked to use appliances like an oven, stovetop, and blender as well as knives.
The final meal is vegetarian and nut-free and can be adapted for gluten-free and dairy-free diets (please indicate in check-out.)
Starter: Pickles and Homemade Butter with a baguette
Main dish: Summer Pesto Pasta
Salad: Dynamite House Salad and Vinaigrette
Dessert: Strawberry Shortcake
****We discourage single-day drop-ins for this camp since each day’s activity builds on the next, culminating in a dinner event for the family on Friday.

This class is well-rounded with great instruction that flows nicely and my aspiring chefs are learning so much! I also loved how the chef instructor stopped and checked for understanding and answered questions from the students. We tried other online cooking classes and the fell flat. Dynamite is really top notch and my girls look forward to their next class.

Absolutely nothing!

Absolutely fantastic. Raves. I am seeing my kids develop kitchen confidence — and make amazing meals — before my eyes, in a way that could never, ever happen if I were leading a class. I am THRILLED. Truly.

Response from The Dynamite Shop (Cooking Classes)

David, thanks so much for taking the time to share this! As the founders of The Dynamite Shop who created this program from this very reason, it warms our heart to hear that Penelope is thriving in the kitchen and enjoying it. We certainly enjoy cooking with her!

About The Dynamite Shop (Cooking Classes)

We started as a culinary social club for children and their families in a Park Slope, Brooklyn storefront with a teaching kitchen, cook's library, photo and video studio, backyard garden and a cafe up front. That was in 2017. In 2020 everything changed and we pivoted online.

Our goal is to help the rising generation of cooks find their niche in food, to celebrate the diversity of our communities and the wider world, and to develop positive relationships around food. Consider us Home Ec 2.0: we champion an old fashioned reverence of the table and offer a cool, supportive place to unplug, but we also embrace technology in the ways it can foster creativity and connection.

The Dynamite Shop empowers kids to express themselves through the lens of food, so we’re not just cooking lasagna and bibimbap to bring home for dinner--we’re learning about regional variations, live-streaming with chefs, watching and creating videos, and exploring how food intersects with culture and community.

Our core curricula is the Dynamite Dinner Club where kids gather in our Zoom kitchen to cook dinner for their families and learn real life cooking skills in the process. Beyond Dinner Club, we're a community that revolves around food: We offer cooking classes for the whole family, weekend workshops, food service projects, private parties and group cooking activities for all ages. Now that we’re online, we are available to the whole planet.
