Now more than ever teens need a place to unwind, come out from their rooms, and use their hands to connect to something nourishing. This teens-only version of our beloved Dynamite Dinner Club will do just that. We’ll add more pro-tips from our teachers, more advanced skills and allow for some extra, needed social time, just for older kids age 13 - 17.
We’re a culinary social club for families that started in 2017 in a Brooklyn storefront. Famed for our afterschool program where kids made dinner to bring home, and our Pop-Up Restaurant and Cook Like a Pro summer camps, we now create interactive online classes available to a global audience that empower kids to get dinner on the table.
This Dynamite Dinner Club curriculum, developed by founders Dana Bowen (Former Executive Editor at Food & Wine, Rachael Ray Every Day, Saveur and more) and Sara Kate Gillingham (Founder of TheKitchn.com and James Beard Award winning cookbook author) teaches fundamental culinary skills through the lens of home cooking. Students meet each week to cook a hearty, healthy meal for their families and in the process learn essential techniques that encourage them to be intuitive, creative cooks.
You may sign up at any time for the whole semester (pro-rated and at a 25% discount) or opt to come week-to-week on a drop-in basis. Semester students receive 25% off Weekend Workshops. Shopping lists are posted on our website up to a month in advance. Lesson packets with recipes are sent the week before class.
Families using one device for multiple children need only to purchase one seat for the family. Sign up one of your children and note at checkout any other siblings. If you sign up more than one, we will assume you are opting to pay for more than one as a means of supporting our work. Thank you!
If signing up from outside the U.S. you will need a workaround to get through the registration process. Select any U.S. state from the drop-down menu, but then put your actual postal code in the “zip code” section. We don’t need your mailing address so the stand-in state doesn’t matter, but this way your credit card will be authorized through the billing postal code.
With the proper pre-class prep, our lessons are designed for students to be able to cook without parental participation, but parents know their children best. Some children may need a hand with particular equipment or instructions.

About The Dynamite Shop (kids cooking classes)
We started as a culinary social club for children and their families in a Park Slope, Brooklyn storefront with a teaching kitchen, cook's library, photo and video studio, backyard garden and a cafe up front. That was in 2017. In 2020 everything changed and we pivoted online.
Our goal is to help the rising generation of cooks find their niche in food, to celebrate the diversity of our communities and the wider world, and to develop positive relationships around food. Consider us Home Ec 2.0: we champion an old fashioned reverence of the table and offer a cool, supportive place to unplug, but we also embrace technology in the ways it can foster creativity and connection.
The Dynamite Shop empowers kids to express themselves through the lens of food, so we’re not just cooking lasagna and bibimbap to bring home for dinner--we’re learning about regional variations, live-streaming with chefs, watching and creating videos, and exploring how food intersects with culture and community.
Our core curricula is the Dynamite Dinner Club where kids gather in our Zoom kitchen to cook dinner for their families and learn real life cooking skills in the process. Beyond Dinner Club, we're a community that revolves around food: We offer cooking classes for the whole family, weekend workshops, food service projects, private parties and group cooking activities for all ages. Now that we’re online, we are available to the whole planet.
