Each week focuses on an important creative writing building block. Our weekly themes are:

Character Week
Runs the week of July 12

Bring your fictional characters to life by developing complex personalities and writing meaningful backstories.

World-Building Week
Runs the week of July 19

Explore the necessary elements and unique characteristics that help establish extraordinary fantasy settings.

Monsters & Villains Week
Runs the week of Aug 16

Conjure up memorable monsters for your stories and dissect the intricacies of a compelling antagonist.

D&D encourages imagination and creativity, whether you’re assuming the role of your fictional character or creating a fantasy world to host your heroic tale. The Writers' Workshop helps kids bring characters to life, build fantastical worlds, and enrich writing with compelling description.

The Writers' Workshop features week-long intensives focused on a different fantasy theme for our writers to explore. The workshops feature collaborative exercises, individual work time, as well as time to share work with the group. At the end of each week, students have a polished, presentable piece of writing influenced by the week’s theme. We encourage students to attend multiple weeks, building upon their work and creating something truly epic!

The program begins with a D & D gaming session. All kids are welcome, from those brand-new to D & D to those more seasoned. We divide kids into secure Zoom Rooms by age and experience, with no more than seven kids per room. Rooms are always under adult supervision by our highly experienced, beloved Game Masters.

At 1 pm, the kids gather for their 2 hour Workshop. Under the guidance of our writing coach, kids will explore and discuss the week's theme, enjoy group exercises, create rough drafts, share their work for constructive feedback, and polish it during the workshop.

Activity, snack, and lunch breaks are taken throughout the session. We honor friend and sibling requests.

Camp did their best everyday to provide kids with an outdoor experience. My kid only had good things to say about the day camp (which is rare).

My kids loved it - even my 6yo daughter, who was very nervous beforehand and trying to convince me she should stay home. When I picked her up at the end of the first day, she was excited to go back and annoyed I'd only booked two days of camp.

Dropoff was a little confusing.

About Brooklyn Game Lab - Park Slope

We don’t just teach kids how to play games; we teach them how to analyze, discuss, and experiment with their own variants in small groups. Our kids are encouraged to think out of the (game) box.Kids who engage in our specialized approach to gaming develop critical-thinking skills like risk and resource management, the art of negotiation and deduction, and long-term planning. The Lab also stresses the importance of fair play, diplomacy, collaboration, and a positive attitude however the game turns out. Located in Park Slope and DUMBO, Brooklyn Game Lab has classes and camps for kids!
