Class Experience

Learn how to program in Scratch, online coding platform developed by MIT. Our Scratch curriculum is designed to motivate through example rather than through drills. Kids will gain the confidence to explore the vast Scratch platform on their own by the end of the semester.

Class Schedule (typical 60 min class):
Check-in (5 min)
We start our curriculum promptly, so students should be logged into both Zoom and online coding platform (Scratch) at the beginning of the session. Teachers make sure everyone is ready to participate and engage.

Coding (45 min)
Teacher demonstrates the day's project and how it will work. The enthusiasm sustains the kids through the ups and downs of making the code work. Kids learn how to overcome things that "don't work" by figuring it out with the teacher.

Show and Tell (10 min)
The last 10 min of class can be spent playing each other's game and project that they made during the class. Its ok if students don't quite feel ready to participate, but if they do they get to 'present' their project to the rest of the class.

Flexible Makeup
We have a flexible makeup policy so if you miss or know  you'll miss a class, you can do a makeup at any of the other Beginner Scratch class offered that week.

Age ranges are approximate. If you are unsure which class would be best for your child, please feel free to reach out to us at info@penguincodingschool.com and we would be happy to help.

Notes

Stable internet connection is required. Computer with keyboard and mouse is recommended for the coding. iPad and tablets can be used in addition to the computer to view the Zoom video screen to follow along with the teaccher.

How To Participate

Attend class via Zoom video

This class will be hosted on Zoom video conferencing platform. You will receive an email 30 minutes before class starts with a link to the class and access instructions. We recommend you make sure your device is up to date and meets all system requirements before class.
