Class Experience

Action! Suspense! Magic! Friendship! These are the essential ingredients of an unforgettable Dungeons & Dragons campaign. This class is beginner friendly but all skill levels are welcome!

At New York Society of Play, 4 to 6 students take on the roles of the central protagonists in a story guided by their instructor, or Dungeon Master. Students shape their character’s growth and powers, meet strange and hilarious supporting characters, take on larger-than-life problems, and learn to work as a team with their peers.

To ensure a safe and respectful play atmosphere, we tie all play to our social contract, which promotes values such as safety, respect, and consent!

Dungeons & Dragons helps kids develop confidence, public speaking skills, problem-solving, literacy, planning, empathy, and creativity. Your kids will be encouraged to develop new social tools by engaging other kids in a safe environment with a common goal. They will engage a wide variety of approaches to a limitless range of situations and process the outcome in a judgment-free space!

Our daughter had so much fun in this class. She plays Minecraft most days on her own, but she loved the chance to explore a new server with a group of players close to her age. She learned some new skills and enjoyed the interaction with the instructor and other kids.

Loved:

Great counselors who were able to lead kids of disparate ages through complex imaginary tasks. My daughter didn't have any background or knowledge of D&D type games at the start but learned a lot and had a great time!

Improvements:

Not sure. This past week went really well. It helped that my daughter was paired with a very close friend.

Meet your Instructor

Taylor W.

I was a food server and bartender for 9 years before moving into restaurant management. I was also in a touring rock band for 7 years. I chose to work in childcare because the mentors I had growing up in theater and music changed my life. Being able to provide that support to the next generation of great minds is a dream come true. Seeing the immense social and emotional progress of every student who takes part in our programming is inspiring. In my free time I love to make music and play chess.
