Class Experience

Do you ever stop to smell the flowers? Some bugs and animals get drawn in by the sweet smell as well but for some, it is a big mistake. The Venus Flytrap, Pitcher Plants, and Cape Sundew would be the worst flowers for small animals and bugs to smell. These carnivorous plants get their nutrients from absorbing other living things. That’s right, they make meals out of bugs and even small animals that land or crawl on them. The Venus flytrap is kind of like a ticking timebomb. Once an insect triggers one of the hairs on the Venus flytraps leaf it’s only a matter of time before the trap closes tight around it. In class, the students will learn many interesting facts about each plant. They will observe what each plant looks like and how it traps its prey. The students will learn what each plant likes to eat and how the plant gets the nutrients it needs from other living creatures. We will create a fun project in our hands-on activity.

What you'll learn

  • Describing Through Observations and Comparisons

The students will make observations and predictions about each of the three carnivores’ plants covered in class. They will compare and contrast the similarities and the differences of each plan. They will be able to describe how the plants lure, trap, and digest their prey.

Loved:

Ms. Amber is the greatest teacher possible! She is exciting, engaging, and seems to show a general love for teaching children! The material is excellent, and our child is not the only one who has learned a few things during the classes! These classes are one of the best opportunities out there!

Improvements:

Add more class options taught by Ms. Amber, especially in the evening/following school hours, as well as adding more openings for free classes/maybe give past students a head-start for access to the free classes?
