Sewing Foundations 101

Come explore the fine art of machine sewing in our Sewing Foundation 101 class! This is a beginner sewing class for students ages 7-13 years old. Through a series of sewing and fashion projects, students learn to use the sewing machine and express their individuality through their handmade wearable art.

In our Sewing Foundation/Machine Basics Sewing Class you will learn:

- How to Thread Your Machine

- How To Thread a Bobbin

- How the top thread and bobbin thread work together

- How to use the different stitches on your machine, including buttonholes (If you have them)

- How to adjust your machine tension; when and why you do it

- Which needles to use with which fabrics

- How to sew zippers and add other closure to sewn projects

- Basic pattern making introduction with a focus in connecting math concepts into the design process.

Projects may include: soft sculptures, stuffed animals, zipper pouch/tote and a final project selected by the group from our project options

Attendance / Cancelation Policy

• Planned absences with advanced notice of 24 hours or more are eligible for class credit. Students are allowed two absences for class credit per semester session. Please email hello@makerstudiokidz.com
  
• This allows us time to alert our staff and make other adjustments to our schedules and studio. 
• Absences communicated to us with less than 24 hours notice are not eligible for class credit, though a makeup class may be scheduled at our discretion
• If you know which days will be missed, prior to signing up, please sign up for Drop-in Spots if they are available instead of the series.
