Class Experience

Jen Morin is our newest addition to the Mel O'Drama Team. Her enthusiasm and passion for working with children with special needs is one we're very excited about having in our amazing program. Jen's class will introduce special needs students to children's theater and music, making it accessible to all ages and abilities.

What you'll learn

  • In this adaptive drama class, students will explore a variety of performance elements, such as mask work, puppetry, pantomime, music, and other sensory experiences. Close attention will be paid to adjust for all individuals to allow for an inclusive environment. Students will also work on life skills like recognizing facial expressions and body language, self-confidence, taking turns, and supporting each other.

  • The Gathering Drum (00:00 - 00:10)

Students are called to the circle with the beat of the djembe.  They will participate in ice breaker games as they get to know each other.

  1. Students practice social skills such as taking turns, active listening, and communication.

  • Physical Warm Ups (00:10 - 00:13)
    1. Students will participate in physical activities and games to warm up their bodies.
    2. Students will practice gross motor skills, balance, and stretching.

  • Vocal Warm Ups (00:13 - 00:20)
    1. Students will participate in a series of vocal exercises and songs.
    2. Students will practice diction, intonation, and projection.

  • Acting Games (00:20 - 00:30)
    1. Students will participate in a variety of warm up acting games.

Students will practice reading body language and facial expressions, working as a team, and learning how to be a good audience member (Miss Jen’s Theater Etiquette).  They will also learn stage directions and vocabulary.


  • Topic of the Week (0:30 - 00:50)

Students will explore topics such as: Mime, Mask Work, Puppetry, Clowns, Movement, Dance, Music, Costumes

  1. Students will practice performing art skills while taking turns and encouraging each other.

  • Dance Freeze (00:50 - 00:53)
    1. Students will dance!  And Freeze.
    2. Students will practice gross motor skills, proprioception skills, balance, and following directions.

  • The Gathering Drum (00:53 - 01:00)
    1. Students return to the circle to say our compliments and goodbyes.
    2. Students will practice social skills and reflect on their performances.
