Want to be an architect?
Are you passionate about taking care of the environment?
Love playing Minecraft?
Bring all these things together at MODA’s Exploring Architecture camp.
Camper architects will be commissioned to design and construct buildings in a Minecraft community they create. They’ll be charged with designing a building that serves a specific function, studying the site on which the building will be constructed, and learning about what makes a building “green.” Then they’ll collaborate to brainstorm ideas for a structure that fulfills needs and respects the environment.
Throughout the week, campers will study real-world innovative architectural works, sustainable concepts, and new construction materials and practices. They’ll also have the opportunity to learn the basics of technical drawing as they sketch buildings.
Then, using computer-aided design programs — Minecraft, SketchUp, and Tinkercad — campers will work in teams to design buildings and bring their community to life. As they build, they’ll be challenged to consider a wide variety of variables such as aesthetics, sustainability, construction materials, and user experience. They’ll design the building’s exterior appearance, as well as its interior features, and use Minecraft’s Redstone functionality to provide power and light.
Campers will build on the MODA Minecraft server, meaning that participants will be able to continue to access their work and keep collaborating with one another and with others once their camp ends.
Your camper will need to have access to Minecraft Java Edition in order to participate in this camp.Java edition is compatible only with Macs and PCs. Chromebooks, tablets, and phones will not work.
