Class Experience

How can we create musical experiences for others to enjoy?

Love music? We’re going to spend this week exploring music in Minecraft while designing musical experiences that are mind-blowingly fun for everyone!

Campers will be charged with designing and creating their own music label! They’ll use note blocks and Redstone to write their own songs, but they’ll also be able to bring in music from other sources. They’ll stage musical performances, explore set design, create an image for their band, and consider the needs and experiences of their audience. In addition to using Minecraft, they’ll also be able to explore other free softwares in order to max out their creativity.

Once we’ve got our labels up and running, we’ll collaborate to build a music festival on MODA’s design server, using the design process and WorldEdit to create an epic experience. At the end of the week, campers will showcase their work with performances for each other as well as families and friends.

Campers will:

Learn about Design and Design Thinking
Learn about Branding and Storytelling through Design
Learn to use Minecraft as a CAD tool
Learn and practice coding in Minecraft
Practice key parts of the architectural design process
Learn to use Redstone to make musical experiences
Learn to use Minecraft as a design tool for exploring and addressing real-world problems
Use the design thinking process as a means of addressing the challenges they face in this course
Refine the human interaction skills used in design thinking, including empathy, teamwork, brainstorming, prototyping, and testing and refining ideas
Improve their coding skills as they learn more refined ways to interact with Minecraft
Develop collaborative online skills
Create and present projects online

Campers will build on the MODA Minecraft server, meaning that participants will be able to continue to access their work and keep collaborating with one another and with others once their camp ends.

Your camper will need to have access to Minecraft Java Edition in order to participate in this camp.Java edition is compatible only with Macs and PCs. Chromebooks, tablets, and phones will not work.
