The Natural Spectrum: Dyeing with everyday plants and food with Amanda de Beaufort

Adult

Description

Unlock the natural spectrum of color from flowers, wild plants, kitchen scraps and minerals!

Local natural dyer Amanda de Beaufort will introduce participants to the age-old process of botanical dyeing—the method of using plants to create sustainable, toxin-free dye.

This workshop will focus on exploring the basics of naturally dyeing with plants, eco-printing and creating paints from plants and minerals. We will create a dye bath from avocados and explore the free form technique of bundle dyeing.

Each participant will leave with a tea towel of their own creation and a silk scarf. Participants are also encouraged to bring their own small sized natural fiber (cotton, wool, silk, linen, etc.) garment or item to dye as well as any fresh or old/dried flowers. Any synthetic content will not be suitable for dyeing. Cotton tees shirts, onesies and pillow cases work well.

$95. All materials including natural dyes, silk scarf, tea towel, fabric samples, plants flowers are included in the price of the workshop.

No previous dyeing experience necessary!
