Campers (ages 4-6) will look at a wide variety of comics and graphic novels, and learn to build their own "superhero universe." We will practice our superhero powers through imaginative play, create universes through collaborative storytelling, and of course draw a LOT of superheroes!
Wiley Reading will teach this camp. Wiley's always been a "doodler" and began integrating his artistic hobbies into his job in afterschool programming when he moved to Vermont in 2015. Some of his favorite classes that he's taught have included a "grow your own comic book world" comic club for 3rd graders in Boston and "Squishy Stuff," a tactile exploration-based accessible curriculum he developed during his time working at C. P. Smith Elementary. When he's not teaching or experimenting with a new artistic medium, he likes to dress his rabbits up in costumes, which they hate.
Children must bring and wear a mask. Please bring your child in clothes that can get messy, or bring a smock from home. Pack a full change of clothes, plus weather appropriate clothes for that day, such as rain coats, sweatshirts, rain boots, sun hats, sunscreen etc. We do spend time outside and we want the kids to be comfortable. Please pack a large lunch with additional snacks and a large water bottle or other drink. Drop off and pick is done one family at a time, so if someone is already in the space dropping off please wait outside or in your car. Adults also must wear masks inside our space.
