Boolean Girl, a non profit corporation founded in 2014, is educating girls to code, build, invent, and animate. We provide all-girl and co-ed classes, all-girl camps, special events, and partnerships - preparing girls (and boys) everywhere to explore computer programming and engineering. The mission of Boolean Girl is to address the declining numbers of girls and women in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) fields by engaging girls in grades three through eight with meaningful, hands-on instruction and sustained exposure to computer science and engineering in a collaborative and welcoming environment.

Loved:

I loved that everyone was very friendly. The instructors never pressured you to be perfect, they just helped you in an extremely nice way.

Improvements:

Nothing, really. Except for the fact that we weren’t allowed to go to Starbucks.

Loved:

My daughter has thoroughly enjoyed Probably in camp this week. She love the projects and took pride in building a solution with her partner. She also love that they mixed it up and made them take activity breaks, off and eating outside. What an incredible camp! The location and the facilities were great too.

Improvements:

Pick up is a little messy. Some parents can’t patiently wait in line to pick up their kids, Which makes for a little bit of chaos. Thankfully it’s only a few minutes till they clear out

Response from Boolean Girl

Thanks for the feedback and kind review. We have really enjoyed this camp and have been amazed at the gadgets the girls have built. The camp room is a mess with junk everywhere. As Edison said "To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk." We have had both. Comments about pick up are fair, you would think a bunch of engineers could do better. We will try to improve each day!

Loved:

My child said that she felt challenged & engaged. She had a great time coding & improving on her work. This is her third Boolean camp & she is always looking forward to attending! Given that many of the students are not eligible to be vaccinated, I also felt that COVID precautions were well done.

Improvements:

The policy is stated up front that everyone must wear a mask. One student did not comply & arrived without a mask each day & remained without one. I feel that it’s unfair to the other students. My child felt unsafe when this student was close by.

Response from Boolean Girl

Hello! Thanks for the kind review. It really has been a great week. The girls have been very creative and built gadgets we never could have imagined. Always amazed when they want to keep building and creating and not take a break. Our apologies on the mask slip up. You are 100% correct. I think we have been having so much fun we missed the mask compliance issue.

Loved:

My child was skeptical about this camp initially, but by the end of the week was engaged and somewhat proud of her coding project. The instructors were attentive and thoughtful about how to teach all the students.

Improvements:

The technology was actually rather poor. The raspberry pi computers were rife with problems and kept breaking down. My child's project was completely erased on the last day and not recoverable.
