Richmond Art Center is the largest visual arts center in the East Bay of the San Francisco Bay Area, delivering exciting arts experiences to people of all ages who reflect the diverse richness of our community. We do this through onsite Studio classes and Exhibitions, and offsite Art in the Community programs. The Richmond Art Center originated in 1936, when local artist Hazel Salmi, who worked for the WPA, traversed the streets of Richmond with a suitcase packed with art supplies, eager to teach art to anyone interested. Today, everything we do at the Center continues to breathe life into Salmi’s original vision: That within every person lives an artist.

Julia is passionate about her work and communicated that well.

Improvements:

I would have liked more specific feedback about my art work-- especially how I could improve it. I could not find the group for our last class. I followed the map to Pt. Pinole. After 30 minutes of searching, I realized that they were no where in sight. The instructor should give her cell # in case of such difficulties. I called the RAC-- no answer. In my busiest season of the year, I was frustrated that I wasted my time , energy, and $ trying to take the final class. :-(

I love this class! We meet at beautiful local outdoor locations. Julia gives us some instruction and guidance and we journal together, talking about the subjects, asking questions, and enjoying nature together. It is a wonderful class and Julia is a great teacher.

Improvements:

More than 4 classes per session would be nice!

The weaving studio and equipment is amazing! Everything needed and more to learn to weave, with plenty of looms and space for everyone.

Improvements:

The mixed-level class was really difficult. The instructor was great, and it felt like she was not set up for success in having to teach people of all skill levels - it was almost like 8 'private' lessons trying to be taught at once, because everyone was in a different place and needed different things. Many beginning weavers were not even on the loom until the last week of class, and I think it would be more beneficial to have a specific-to-beginners class.

Loved:

It felt like we learned all the steps to make something cool on our own. I'm super excited about it. I was impressed with how much she was able to get in.

Improvements:

I think there was a handout that was sent out through the Sawyer system that I didn't get initially I think because I must have signed up after the message went out. The teacher was able to send it over after the class though.
