Description
Picture an art studio atop a hill overlooking 40 acres of fields, tree-lined hiking trails, a little mountain, some cows grazing below and the occasional running chickens. Our founder, Sasha, is so happy to finally be opening her at-home Scribble studio and all the farmland along with it to our inaugural summer camp class of toddler artists.
Mini-Scribbler summer camp will be a 2 & 1/2 hour drop off experience comprised of outdoor sensory play centers, a mid-morning snack/story time (healthy, nut-free snack provided), outdoor exploration (including our visits to the hiking trails and animals) and 45 minutes of art-making. Each week we’ll have a theme that permeates all of these aspects of the day. We’ll also create a weekly large-scale collaborative piece of artwork emphasizing socialization (and of course creativity!) in the art studio.
Week 1 (July 9-11th) Shape:
We’ll be learning and exploring shapes this week at minicamp! Our sensory play centers will focus on finding, sorting, naming, and making our own shapes. During snack/story time, we’ll read our favorite books about shapes. Then, we’ll delve into art-making with painting on circular surfaces, building sculptures out of wooden cubes, and making a collaborative large-scale print using blocks.
Week 2 (July 16-18th) Line:
This week, it’s all about line! Sensory play centers will include linear objects. During snack/story time, we’ll read our favorite (and most beautiful) books about lines. Our art projects this week will include line paintings, line found object collages, and a collaborative large-scale line painting.
Week 3 (July 23rd-25th) Color:
Color is such an important aspect of art-making, but also for much of descriptive language. Sensory play centers will include color searching, sorting, and mixing. During snack/story time, we’ll read our favorite books about color. For art-making this week, we’ll make drip paintings, spray paintings, and a collaborative large-scale color mixing painting.
Week 4 (August 13-15th):
The Great ARTdoors: How could we not embrace our beautiful natural surroundings as inspiration for our own art-making? Sensory play centers will include sorting, spilling, and building with natural materials. During snack/story time, we’ll read our favorite books about the farm. For art-making this week, we’ll make paintings using found natural objects as our brushes and sculptures using materials we find on our hikes.
