Adventures in Art focuses on providing students with the time, space, and encouragement to continue developing their drawing skills. If we look back in history, we see that drawing was the first written language and remains a powerful way to communicate ideas. Children show an interest in mark making early in life, and draw primitive figures as a precursor to writing letters and words. As they get older and spend more time on text-based work in school, they need additional support outside the classroom to keep drawing. During this class, I guide students through the process of visualizing their ideas by teaching skills that meet them at their level of interest and ability. Materials that we use include artist grade pens, pencils, watercolors, pastels, and markers on a variety of high quality papers.
