What does it mean to be an artist? How can artists be leaders in their community? Artists can be problem solvers, sounding boards, innovators and originators. Meeting two times a week, students will explore how they can make a positive impact on the world around them through the theatrical experience. Students will build on exercises designed to expand their creative thinking and develop their own artistic values. As a troupe we will explore already written scripts, as well as work toward the production of our own devised performance.
We are asking the students who enroll in the High School Leadership Class to submit a one page essay. Here are the details: An artistic manifesto is an enthusiastic and assertive declaration that guides one's creative intentions. It is a passionate and personal statement that explains why art matters to you and why you care about it. It highlights your values and can detail where you would like to see theatre or art go in the future; often focusing on where it can benefit a specific community or spotlight social issues.
In one page, issue your own artistic manifesto (be creative, be bold, think big). Then describe an artistic project (does not have to be performance based) that would embody your goals and could be implemented in your community. Explain why it would be beneficial.
